In late February this year, a high-level economic delegation from Ethiopia visited China. Lelise Nemi, Director of Ethiopian Investment Department, in an exclusive interview with reporters from CRI Online, emphasized the significant role of Chinese investments in Ethiopia's economic development and expressed anticipation for further comprehensive cooperation between Ethiopia and China.
The mission achieved fruitful outcomes
Lelise Nemi highlighted the fruitful outcomes of the delegation's visit, stating, "I feel honored. In January of this year, the first foreign visit by the newly appointed Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang, was to Ethiopia. Subsequently, our Ethiopian delegation visited China. This reflects the closeness of our bilateral relations." As one of the delegation members, she engaged in discussions with representatives from various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and construction, expressing that: "We are pleased to have engaged in discussions and negotiations with key representatives from significant Chinese institutions, investment partners in Ethiopia, and potential investors." Summing up, she concluded that the visit had yielded fruitful outcomes.
The cooperation yields satisfying outcomes, indicating a promising future
China and Africa have maintained a close partnership, with China-Ethiopia collaboration being a crucial component. Lelise Nemi emphasized the continuous growth of friendly relations between Ethiopia and China, serving as an exemplary model for China-Africa cooperation. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the proposal of the BRI, in which Ethiopia actively participates as a key player. Under the framework of the BRI, both countries continually expand their cooperation domains and deepen their partnership. In recent years, an increasing number of Chinese enterprises have chosen to invest and operate in Ethiopia. Nemi highlighted that hundreds of diverse Chinese enterprises have established their presence in Ethiopia, spanning various sectors, including manufacturing, construction, agriculture, and mining. She noted that Chinese enterprises actively engaged in the important development agenda of Ethiopia, particularly in industrial zones, as well as infrastructure projects such as railways and highways. "Chinese enterprises have played a crucial role in the development and construction of Ethiopian cities, contributing significantly to local job creation," added Nemi.
Lelise Nemi stated, "The relationship between our two countries, much like our economic cooperation, is becoming increasingly close and robust. We believe that our two nations will continue to deepen collaboration in the future."
